Being able to put a targeted pour in a specific spot on a painting just by masking with contact paper (sticky backed plastic used Usually as a re-positional shelf liner-It has just enough tack to stay put and keep a clean seal but it is easy to release from the painting surface. Contact is the brand I used that is available in the United states)
This painting looks like a fantasy planet in a star filled sky. I painted the background in with Liquitex Heavy Body: Mars Black, Phthalo Blue and Dioxazine Purple and dried it over night. Then I used a toothbrush to spatter thinned down Liquitex Titanium White for the star filled sky. After that was dry I applied the precut mask of Contact sticky backed plastic as the mask and did the pour!
All of the paints were all watered down to a smooth fluid - like thin cream and then mixed with Golden Polymer Medium Gloss, the Golden GAC-800.
This time we are using a 12 inch x 12 inch Cradled Wood Panel. I'm using several different paints to pour with: Decoart Crafter's acrylics: Buttercream, Liquitex Titanium White, Matisse: Southern Ocean Blue, Pebeo Studio Acrylics: Red/Blue, Golden Polymer Medium Gloss, Golden GAC-800 and water.
There's no silicon oil or torching in my projects as I really worry about the possible side effects of burning the acrylic paints and the materials they are made from. We all have to weigh the pros and cons of how we interact with our art supplies. Experimenting can be exciting and beautiful but there can be consequences we don't know about yet. As with any thing in life be informed by reputable sources and your own common sense. :)
The most important things you need to be successful with any of my creative projects are the willingness to learn and to be easy on yourself as you are learning. We tend to be our worst critics and we need to learn to be kind to ourselves.
