New Watercolor Book

I made myself a hand bound watercolor journal from 1 full size sheet of 140# paper today. I havn't done any bookbinding in a couple years so this was a fun exercise! It is Coptic bound hard covers.

I'll be able to get 16 watercolor sketches in this book. I decided that wasn't too many. I tend to get overwhelmed by too many sheets in a journal or sketchbook. when there are too many pages I start and then keep seeing ALL THOSE OTHER PAGES and think I'll never be able to fill them up and so I stop even trying. I'm working on getting better about that kind of talk to myself

Since this is a watercolor journal It ended up with a watery theme to the doodling on the cover. I had fun seeing what it would become. I used a Koh-I-Nor Rapido Sketcher pen (I'm loving this pen right now) and my Prismacolor Watercolor pencils.

happy Saturday! Cheers, SB

very nice piece, i really like the composition, with the fish to the left of the picture and coming forward. the drawing —calling it a doodle seems like an understatement to me— also has an illustrative quality to it. ever thought about writing an illustrating a children's book perhaps?

Oh Stephanie.....what a cool cover! For some weird reason, I thought your EDM post said "underwear" cover, so I was pleasantly surprised!

I really enjoy all your doodles especially this one with color and pictures inserted.

You get such vibrance out of watercolor pencils. And, what is the rapdi sketch pen? Is it a disposable? Lovely sketch, very colorful and playful.

This is doodling? My doodles don't look like this. This is great! You are going to have a wonderful book.

Fantastic doodling! Great style you've got, and I love the strength of colour you've got from the Prismacolors.

thanks all! I had a lot of fun with this one. It really is a doodle, I just started in a corner and hopped all over the page and this is what ended up happening. It was a very plesant surprise!

Nope my son never got stung by a bumble bee. :) they are our friendly little garden buddies. :)

the Koh-I-Nor Rapido Sketcher pen is a refillable, pen similar to the Rapidograph pens except you can draw with it from more angles instead of perpendicular to the paper. I love it. Cheers! SB
